Corporations do not always follow safety procedures
It is critical to handle toxic substances carefully in order to protect individuals and the environment in which we all live. Corporations who work with dangerous chemicals or toxic by-products often fail to follow proper safety procedures in their effort to save money. When their negligence results in fires, chemical spills, explosions and the release of poison gases, the results can be catastrophic.

Sources of toxic exposure
Workers in particular industries are at risk for toxic exposure. In particular, people exposed to benzene, welding rod fumes, silica and mercury can suffer long-term consequences. Cancers, neurological illness and lung diseases are far more common among people who work in industries where they are exposed to these toxins. However, all people can be exposed to toxic substances by virtue of where they live, the products they buy or what places they visit.
Major toxic exposure cases
Two of our notable toxic exposure cases include:
- $80 Million Recovery in Toxic Exposure Suite Unocal class action case. In this incident, 6,000 people in the Rodeo, California, area were exposed to an odorless chemical compound over many days in 1994. Our firm represented 600 of the plaintiffs and was chosen to act as lead counsel. We employed industry and medical experts to demonstrate Unocal’s liability for problems such as memory loss, eye irritation and asthma. We helped obtain an $80 million settlement for the plaintiffs in 1997.
- Toxic mold case. We were able to obtain $605,000 in a toxic mold case in 2004.
