A 21-year-old man and his female passenger died and two others were injured on July 26 when the car they were riding in struck a tractor-trailer truck on 405 Freeway in Carson. According to the report, the accident occurred around 2:15 a.m. as the two vehicles were heading southbound on the highway.
The California Highway Patrol said that a tan Toyota Camry sedan carrying four occupants and a transfer truck were both traveling southbound on the freeway when the sedan sideswiped the truck’s front left side as the car was turning towards the right hand side of the roadway. The Toyota then swerved in the roadway, broke through a guardrail and came to rest after rolling down the highway’s embankment. Two passengers, an 18-year-old man and a young female, were moderately injured. The driver, a 21-year-old man from Long Beach, and a young female passenger died on impact. The big rig driver was reportedly unhurt.
Following the car crash, law enforcement officials shut down the northbound off-ramp to Avalon Boulevard at the scene of the wreck. The area was reopened several hours later after the roadway was cleared. Officials did not say if any of the drivers were intoxicated or speeding at the time of the crash or if the motorists were using their seat belts.
Whenever someone has been injured or has lost a loved one as a result of a driver’s negligent actions, he or she may be eligible to file a claim for compensation. Official documentation such as police reports, eyewitness accounts, medical reports and records of expenses stemming from the accident could possibly be used as evidence in a personal injury claim in a civil court. In cases where the at-fault driver is deceased, the injured party may be able to file the claim against his or her estate.
