California Trucking Accident Kills 2 Teenagers
A truck driver who subcontracts with Caltrans exited Interstate-15 at Cajon Pass at almost midnight on June 24 and collided into a PT Cruiser. The vehicle had five people in it, and a 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old girl died in the wreckage. Three men, ages 19 and 20, were taken to the hospital, but there was no word on the extent of their injuries only that one person was released.
On the night following the accident, a community memorial was held at Serrano High School in Phelan. All five of the young people involved in this fatal accident were students or alumni of the school. Friends and family remembered the boy and girl who died and shared that they were the best kind of friends who both loved to ride dirt bikes.
One passenger of the Cruiser believed the truck driver did not attempt a stop as he brought the dump truck to the bottom of the off-ramp. This fatal truck accident is still under investigation, but a Caltrans employee believes the Cruiser rolled following the collision, and the dump truck landed on it. The truck driver was not injured in the accident.
Fatal trucking accidents such as this may cause difficulties for family members as they try to cope with their loss of a loved one. When tragedy like this strikes, it could be considered a wrongful death, which means someone died because of the negligent act of another person either accidentally or intentionally. A civil suit might be advisable in a tragic situation to compensate families for their loss, and a personal injury attorney might help a family by filing the action with the court and representing their best interests in the case. It is possible a lawyer will assist families with insurance company and trucking company settlements, which might help avoid emotional and time-consuming court proceedings.
