Every time San Francisco motorists take to the roadways, they are in danger of being involved in a car accident. Car accidents are so common, in fact, that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that someone is involved in a car accident every 10 seconds in the United States.

A recent car crash on a California interstate involved several vehicles and injured multiple people. The findings of an initial investigation show that the accident began when a 2005 Toyota Scion XB collided with a semi truck. The driver of the Toyota was traveling at around 80 mph when she allowed the vehicle to veer into another lane and collide with the big rig. The driver of the Toyota crashed into the semi truck a second time before crossing the center divider colliding with oncoming traffic. The Toyota proceeded to hit two vehicles, a 2008 Nissan Titan and a 2012 Subaru Impresa.

Both vehicles were hit at speeds around 70 mph. This collision caused the Nissan pickup truck to lose control and collide with a California Highway Patrol vehicle. The drivers of both the Nissan pickup and the Subaru were injured in the accident, along with a CHP officer.

The CHP officer was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. The driver of the pickup suffered serious injuries in the collision, and his passenger also suffered injuries. Another motorist was treated for minor injuries. All of the vehicles involved in the accident were damaged.

It is not believed that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. The accident backed up traffic for several hours on the California interstate. An accident investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the collision.
