Pedestrian safety continues to be a concern for California residents as accidents occur on a regular basis. Many of these accidents result in serious injuries or even death. Recently one man was hit by a truck and is now in serious condition.
According to police officers, shortly after the morning rush hour, a 70-year-old man was crossing the street when he was struck by a truck. It was not immediately clear if he was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. The man who hit him, age 55, was apparently attempting to turn left onto the road the pedestrian was crossing.
The pedestrian was airlifted to a hospital for treatment due to the severity of his injuries. Included in the list of injuries are a broken pelvis and head lacerations. He is still in serious condition. Neither man's identity has not been released as the investigation is ongoing. Authorities did say that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the accident, however.
There is inevitable pain and confusion following these types of accidents, for victims and their families, which is especially true if the accident could have been avoided. The amount of compensation that may be awarded in California depends largely on the losses suffered by a party who was hit by a truck. Several types of damages may be recoverable, including pain and suffering, lost wages, medical expenses and loss of future earning capacity. Victims and their families may wish to fully research their rights under personal injury laws to be sure they understand how to proceed with a civil lawsuit to seek compensation.
