Casper, Meadows, Schwartz & Cook

The California Highway Patrol reports that an accident involving a transfer truck and a sedan occurred on the 405 Freeway in Carson on July 26 and claimed the lives of two individuals. Two passengers who were involved were injured.

According to reports, the accident happened at the northbound Avalon Boulevard exit ramp of the freeway at about 2:15 a.m. when a 21-year-old Long Beach man driving southbound in a tan-colored Toyota Camry hit the front left side of southbound big rig as the Camry attempted to turn right. The force of the impact caused the car to veer across the roadway, proceed through a guard rail and then fall down an embankment.

Two of the four occupants in the vehicle, the driver and a female passenger, were killed at the scene. The other two occupants in the car, a young woman and an 18-year-old man, were moderately injured. It was not clear if they were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. The truck driver did not report any injuries.

The report did not indicate if anyone involved in the wreck was wearing their seat belts or if speed or alcohol played a role in the accident. When they responded to the scene, authorities restricted traffic near the crash site while crews cleared away debris on the road.

In motor vehicle accidents, injured parties may be able to pursue compensation for their losses by seeking separate personal injury claims against the person or persons responsible. Information from police reports and eyewitness accounts may prove important to the claim and may reveal that the someone acted in a negligent manner when the accident occurred, such as speeding, drunk driving or careless driving.
