In 1979, trial attorneys Stan Casper and Andrew Schwartz started the firm Casper & Schwartz in Concord, California. By the 1990’s, the firm had grown to Casper, Meadows, Schwartz & Cook and moved to its current location in downtown Walnut Creek. Since its inception, CMS&C specialized in assisting victims in personal injury and wrongful death cases, always on the side of the plaintiff.

The firm found early success to propel itself from an upstart shingle to a preeminent plaintiffs’ firm in Contra Costa County and the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

For example, in the mid-1980’s Andrew Schwartz took the heartbreaking case of a three-year-old boy who fell into a neighbor’s pool in Danville, suffering a severe anoxic brain injury. Mr. Schwartz and his experts determined that the pool cover was deficient and pursued the manufacturer under a product liability theory. Mr. Schwartz obtained a settlement with a current valuation of over $5 million for the boy – compensation that has provided for the lifelong care of the child through adulthood.

Stan Casper also found early success when assisting the family of a man killed at Los Medanos College when the scissor lift he was using to clean the gym roof tipped over. Although the case had major issues of comparative fault, Mr. Casper obtained a $2.2 million verdict in wrongful death damages for the family against the manufacturer of the scissor lift for not implementing safety features that would have prevented the tragedy.

Over the years, the attorneys of Casper, Meadows, Schwartz & Cook have successfully assisted hundreds of individuals in cases of serious injury or wrongful death, obtaining dozens of settlements and verdicts over seven figures. Although these cases run the gamut in terms of the tragic circumstances that resulted in the injury or death, the common factor is that the incidents were ultimately the fault of another person or entity, whether that conduct was negligent, reckless, or intentional.

Casper, Meadows, Schwartz & Cook has had a forty-year commitment to representing individuals who have suffered grievous harm. Often, their clients’ initial harm has been compounded by the responsible parties denying responsibility and by the callous calculations of liability insurance companies that are determined to not pay on legitimate claims. These are the fights that Casper, Meadows, Schwartz & Cook has fought for four decades, battling multibillion-dollar companies attempting to evade civil and financial responsibility. The firm has built the expertise, resources, and trial skills to prevail in these difficult fights and to obtain justice and compensation for their clients.
