Family Sues Red Bull Energy Drink Company After Death of Their Loved One

Casper, Meadows, Schwartz & Cook

When Americans need an extra kick, they often reach for coffee. Yet, when a long-lasting and intense boost is desired, many turn to energy drinks. Energy drinks have now been used for a few decades, and one of the most popular beverages of this type is Red Bull.

However, family is suing Red Bull, renowned energy drink company, for the wrongful death of their loved one. According to plaintiffs, the beverage was the cause of a man's fatality in 2011. The victim purportedly lost his life during a basketball scrimmage after consuming the beverage. As a result, the family is pursuing $85 million in damages in a wrongful death lawsuit.

The family's lawyer explains that Red bull triggered the heart attack, which led to the man's death. Plaintiffs report that the beverage contains excessive stimulants that differ tremendously from a traditional cup of coffee. The stimulants are allegedly more harmful and hazardous than the company lets on.

At this time, the beverage company has not made statements regarding the case. However, Red Bull mentioned to the New York Daily News that for over two decades, 35 billion drinks have been sold. The company asserts, "Health authorities across the world have concluded that Red Bull Energy Drink is safe to consume."

Nevertheless, nine other fatalities have been associated with the drink, according to Consumerist.com. As a result, the Food and Drug Administration has been looking into the product and other energy beverages. Monster is another popular energy drink that has garnered similar attention. In the past eight years, Consumersit.com notes that there have been over 20 reports of health issues resulting from the consumption of Red Bull, including chest pain, dizziness and fatigue.

Wrongful death matters

Nothing is more heart wrenching than the sudden and unexpected death of a loved one. As in the aforementioned case, a legal matter can be pursued against any responsible parties through a wrongful death claim. As is the case here, surviving family members can bring forward a suit on behalf of the deceased loved one. While nothing can bring a person back, this legal option can help a family reach closure and recovery in the matter. A suit can also help a family uncover answers to their questions.

If an accident has claimed the life of your loved one, meet with an experienced attorney. A professional that specializes in personal injury law can help you sort through your legal options.
